How ActivFlo Works

In a hard water environment, calcium and bicarbonate ions bind together in response to changes in temperature or pressure to form hard calcium carbonate scale.

Two things happen when water flows through ActivFlo. It comes into contact with a small electrical charge on the surface of the alloy and experiences a pressure drop caused by the alloy's shape. These effects cause the calcium and bicarbonate to form an insoluble aragonite crystal. These crystals are ultra-fine and do not have the same bonding properties as calcium carbonate. This means they cannot stick to water pipes, heaters, or showers. Instead, they remain suspended in the water and are flushed out. Additionally, because ActivFlo is not a filter, the water retains its beneficial minerals and is still safe for direct consumption.

These photos show mineral particles precipitated from "the same water sample" with a hardness of 750mg/L. Note how the particles are bonded together before being treated by ActivFlo and "separated" after treatment. Scientific analysis has shown that the mineral particle size decreased from 100-400 micrometers in untreated water to approximately 30 micrometers in ActivFlo-treated water.
