The TOZEN Model 550 Surge Anticipation Valve is a pilot-operated hydraulic safety valve designed to protect pumps, pumping equipment, and pipeline systems against damaging pressure surges caused by sudden changes in flow velocity. It is an essential safety device for preventing water hammer and protecting critical hydraulic infrastructure.
Under normal operating conditions, pumps start and stop gradually, preventing harmful pressure waves from developing. However, during unexpected events such as power failures or emergency pump shutdowns, rapid flow deceleration can generate severe pressure surges capable of damaging pumps, valves, and pipelines.
The TOZEN Model 550 automatically anticipates these surge conditions by responding to the initial low-pressure wave created after pump stoppage. The pilot control system opens the valve before the returning high-pressure wave reaches the pipeline, safely relieving excessive pressure and significantly reducing the risk of hydraulic shock. After the surge has dissipated, the valve closes gradually to prevent secondary pressure spikes.
