Through its patented technology, INTA UK has developed the ActivFlo hard-water and limescale treatment system to control limescale formation without filter cartridges, salt regeneration or chemical treatment. The system is designed to retain naturally occurring minerals in the water while changing the characteristics of calcium and magnesium minerals responsible for scale formation.

The result is conditioned water with reduced scale-forming behavior, helping protect domestic plumbing fixtures and water-heating equipment from the effects of hard-water deposits.

At the heart of ActivFlo is a unique patented catalytic alloy made from a combination of semi-precious metals that react with water. As water passes through the ActivFlo unit, the natural conductivity of the water enables the metals to interact, creating an electric field across the surface of the patented alloy.

This electric field promotes the precipitation of calcium and bicarbonate ions from the water, forming microscopic crystals of insoluble calcium carbonate known as aragonite. Unlike conventional limescale deposits, these aragonite crystals have a smoother surface and are less likely to adhere strongly to plumbing and equipment surfaces.

When mineral deposits are subsequently left on surfaces such as shower screens, taps or chrome fittings through evaporation, they are easier to remove with light cleaning. This can reduce the need for aggressive cleaning products, strong chemicals or intensive scrubbing.
