The ONICON F-5500 Thermal Mass Flow Meter is designed for measuring the flow of natural gas, compressed air and other clean, dry industrial gases. Unlike conventional volumetric flow measurement systems that may require separate pressure and temperature compensation, the thermal mass sensing technology directly measures gas mass flow and provides standardized volumetric flow rate and total data.
The F-5500 is available in both inline and insertion configurations. The insertion version is particularly suitable for retrofit projects because it can be installed or removed without interrupting gas service when an appropriate hot-tap installation is used. Inline meters are suitable for smaller pipe sizes, while insertion meters are available for larger pipe diameters.
The meter uses ONICON's proprietary direct digital control sensing circuitry, providing stable response across a wide operating range. For standard natural gas applications, ONICON specifies accuracy of up to ±1.0% of reading within the applicable flow range. The F-5500 can also be individually calibrated for the specified gas and application.
The F-5500 features a bright, easy-to-read display showing flow rate and total flow. The standard configuration provides a 4–20 mA analog output and RS485 interface, configurable for BACnet MS/TP or Modbus RTU, allowing measured data to be transmitted to BAS/BMS or industrial control systems. An alternative output configuration provides 4–20 mA flow output together with a scaled pulse output for totalization or alarm indication.
The meter is factory programmed for the specified application and delivered ready for operation. With no moving parts, a durable construction and integrated diagnostic functions, the F-5500 is designed for low-maintenance operation in industrial gas measurement systems.
