Samsung SEMV Factory Project, Thai Nguyen

In industrial facilities, fire remains a potential hazard that can cause significant damage to infrastructure, equipment, people, and the surrounding environment. For this reason, reliable fire protection systems are an essential part of industrial facility design, particularly in large-scale electronics manufacturing plants.

For the Samsung Electro-Mechanics Vietnam (SEMV) factory project in Thai Nguyen, the fire protection contractor worked with PGTECH to identify a suitable deluge valve solution for the plant's fire protection system. Based on the project's requirements, PGTECH supplied Fesco deluge valves from South Korea for the SEMV facility.

The solution was selected to support reliable water-flow control during fire protection system activation and to meet the demanding operating requirements of an industrial manufacturing environment.

Project Information & Key Highlights

The SEMV industrial project in Thai Nguyen was developed by Samsung Electro-Mechanics (Samsung Electro-Mechanics Vietnam) with total registered investment reaching approximately US$2.27 billion.

The facility focuses on the production and assembly of advanced electronic components and high-density interconnection products, including HDI printed circuit boards, FPCB and main boards, as well as components such as camera modules, rectifier modules, touch sensor modules, and linear motors.

These products are used in high-tech telecommunications equipment and other electronic products. To support large-scale manufacturing operations, the project also includes supporting buildings and technical and social infrastructure for employees and specialists.

By October 2021, the project had created employment for approximately 6,585 workers, contributing to the development of the local industrial workforce. The facility also represents an important part of Samsung's broader manufacturing footprint in Vietnam and its long-term investment in the country's high-tech manufacturing sector.

PGTECH – Fesco Deluge Valve Solution for Fire Protection

For the SEMV project, PGTECH supplied Fesco deluge valves from South Korea as part of the fire protection system.

A deluge valve is a key component in a deluge fire protection system. Unlike a conventional sprinkler system in which individual sprinkler heads activate separately when exposed to sufficient heat, a deluge system releases water through multiple open discharge devices once the deluge valve is activated.

This configuration is suitable for applications where rapid water discharge and broad-area fire suppression are required. In an industrial facility, the selection of the deluge valve therefore needs to consider factors such as operating pressure, flow capacity, activation method, system configuration, reliability, and compatibility with the overall fire protection design.

PGTECH worked with the fire protection contractor during the equipment-selection process to provide a Fesco solution appropriate for the SEMV project. The Fesco deluge valve was selected as part of the project's fire protection infrastructure, supporting controlled water release when the system is activated.

The Fesco deluge valve solution provides several important functions within a fire protection system:

• Controls water flow into the deluge piping network.
• Enables rapid discharge when the system is activated.
• Supports large-area fire suppression applications.
• Provides stable operation under the specified system pressure.
• Integrates with the project's fire detection and release configuration.

For large electronics manufacturing facilities such as SEMV, fire protection systems must be coordinated carefully with the building layout, production areas, equipment, utilities, and other technical systems. Properly selected valves are therefore an important part of maintaining system reliability.

PGTECH's role in the project included not only product distribution but also technical consultation and coordination with the fire protection contractor to identify an appropriate deluge valve solution.
