PGTECH Visits Burj Khalifa and Grosvenor House Projects with Ecotherm in Dubai

During a business trip to the Middle East and Asia headquarters of Ecotherm in Dubai, PGTECH had the opportunity to visit several key projects using Ecotherm’s advanced heat transfer solutions for central hot water systems. The visit focused on evaluating real-world performance, efficiency, and space-saving benefits.

Two of the most notable projects visited were the Burj Khalifa—the tallest building in the world—and the iconic Grosvenor House Dubai twin towers.

Burj Khalifa – Efficient Hot Water System at Global Scale

Standing at 828 meters with 163 floors, Burj Khalifa uses 11 turnkey central hot water systems from Ecotherm. Each system has a capacity of 300 kW, combining gas-fired boilers with Ecotherm hot water tanks, divided into 5 operational zones.

Thanks to its compact design, high efficiency, and energy-saving performance, Ecotherm’s solution was selected for this landmark project in 2008. The system meets key requirements such as:

Grosvenor House Hotel – Optimized Design for Maximum Efficiency

The second project visited was Grosvenor House Hotel, a luxury twin-tower development in Dubai Marina, each tower rising 210 meters.

Ecotherm shared insights into the system design process:

The original design required 64,000 liters of storage
Ecotherm redesigned the system to reduce it to 8,000 liters, while maintaining the same heating capacity
Hot water is continuously supplied at 60°C using on-demand heating technology

For the second tower, the system was further optimized:

Storage reduced to just 4,000 liters (2 tanks of 2,000 liters each)
Still fully meets peak demand of 28,000 liters/hour

This demonstrates Ecotherm’s ability to significantly reduce space and energy consumption while maintaining performance.
