Butterfly valves are among the most widely used industrial valves thanks to their simple design, ease of installation, and cost-effectiveness compared with many other valve types. Their straightforward construction allows for lower manufacturing costs while still providing reliable performance across a wide range of applications. Butterfly valves are commonly available in wafer, lug type, and double-flanged configurations, and are manufactured from cast iron, carbon steel, and stainless steel. In HVAC, water supply, water distribution, and fire protection systems, cast iron wafer butterfly valves are the most common choice due to their economical cost and dependable performance. For certain water supply applications, stainless steel butterfly valves may be selected to provide enhanced corrosion resistance. Carbon steel butterfly valves and valves manufactured from special alloys are typically specified for demanding applications such as oil & gas, LNG, and nuclear power facilities.
